A birthday party at Canterbury Park horse racing track took an unexpected turn last weekend when six-year-old Grayson discovered that his father, Jim, was more interested in gambling than celebrating his son’s special day.
Upon arriving at the track, Grayson was excited to see the beautiful horses, but his excitement quickly faded. The children’s party crew found Grayson’s father perched high up in a loud box seat in a seersucker suit, surrounded by thick smoke from his gigantic cigar, which was practically the size of his son’s arm. “He shouted at the kids to bet ‘Show’ on the horse named ‘May the Horse Be With You.’ Then immediately ordered them to leave so he could focus on yelling at the jockeys,” reported an anonymous party-goer.
Grayson and his friends were left feeling dejected as they attempted to watch the race from the bleachers, trying to see over ladies with comically large hats. “Come on, they could have gotten a little more creative with this party,” mentioned Grayson’s friend Chuckie. “Pin the Tail on the Jockey, Horseshoe Toss, pony rides – those are three great horse-themed party ideas I just thought up and I’m only six. At least this birthday party was better than when Tommy had his party at Dick’s Last Resort. My friends still call me poopy pants because of that stupid server.”
The party took a turn for the worse when Grayson’s father was cut off from having his 8th mint julep at The Backstretch, the on-site bar.
Despite the disappointing turnout, Grayson took his father’s betting advice and surprisingly won over $1,000, which he plans to double down on next week’s races. “Go big or go home! That’s what my daddy always says!” shouted Grayson while fanning out ten crisp one-hundred-dollar bills.
